Veggies Anyone?

Last night as we eating dinner, or rather arguing about eating dinner, I told Chase that he needed to finish his vegetables and he could be done. I received a myriad of arguments and reasons why he shouldn't eat them. From the simple, "I don't like the vegetables," to the "I only like the rice" argument, the 'reasons' just kept coming. Then, the most elaborate of the excuses...

Chase: "I can't eat the vegetables, mom."
Me: "Yes, you can."
Chase: "No, because I want to jump on the trampoline."
Me: "Okay, and you can jump on the trampoline after you finish your vegetables."
Chase (a little more whiny this time): "No, I can't jump if I eat them!"
Me: "Why not?"
Chase: "Because they will make me bigger, and people that are too big will break the trampoline!"

Nice try sir!

And yes, he DID finish his vegetables.

One Proud Mommy

Well, a lot has happened since my last post. And, there have been many incidents which I have wanted to share. Unfortunately, I haven't found the time. Of course, to me, worse than not sharing them is the simple fact that they did not get documented and my overworked mind can no longer remember those funny little things.

However, the point of today's post is a little more bragging on Quinn. Something that definitely made this mommy swell with pride.

Just yesterday, I FINALLY opened Quinn's backpack for the first time since he got out of school (May 20). I guess I just didn't think there would be anything in there, as they had brought home all of their supplies the day before. I also assumed grade cards would then be mailed.

Well, I was wrong. Upon opening his bag, I found his yearbook. (Which I must say, I did have the cutest kid in all of their Kindergarten classes.) There was a very nice "Thank you" card from his teacher, thank me for all of my help with field trips, class parties, etc. There was also next years school schedule, all of the information for early enrollment for next year, his school supply list for 1st grade, finally both his 4th quarter report card and his 4th quarter highlights sheet.

The highlights sheet is something we received with each report card. It showed the things they were supposed to know before moving on to First grade. It includes things like their reading level, how many upper and lower case letters they can both recognize and write, their address and phone number, "sight" words, and much more.

And.......now for the bragging. Quinn's report card showed ALL E's and +'s. Excellent work, son! But, the most impressive thing for this mommy is truly amazing, at least I think so. :)

The Kindergarten classes is first assessed with a "pre-primer" level in reading. Which is basically recognizing letters and such. The goal for Kindergarten is to be on a level 4 reading before moving on to First grade. (Pre-primer, level 1, level 2, etc.) On the highlights sheet, it states:

"Our goal is level 4 by the end of kindergarten. Your child is reading on a level 15." That's right a level FIFTEEN! He is one amazing kiddo!

Time to Brag a Little

Below is the link for the book that Quinn picked out and is currently reading. He was so excited to show his teacher! She let him read a page to the class today and said he did a FANTASTIC job! He is only in Kindergarten (well, for another month anyway.) The book is 246 pages long.

I am an extremely proud mommy...

Uh Oh...Afraid to Face the Teacher

So, last night Quinn was telling me about the story he is writing in school. He started it yesterday and works on it during their "free" time. "Free" time is what I am calling the time that he has after he finishes his reading and he has to wait for the other kids to finish. There is also a "Free" time where they have about 3 options of what they can do, and story writing is one of the options. Anyway, he was telling me about his story. It is called The City. He told me that he wrote "the city has skyscrapers." He also said there were other things but he couldn't remember right now. Then he says, "I know I did write one page that says 'the city has a liquor store'." LOL *buries face in hands* I do love this kid.

He Thinks He's Sneaky

Chase: Mom, can I have a donut?
Me: No, you already had breakfast.
Chase: But, I really want one.
Me: Too bad, you need to wait until lunch.
Chase: But, I want a donut.
Me: Chase, I said no.
Chase: Mom, don't you need to go downstairs and find something?
Me: Why, so you can sneak a donut?
Chase: Yes. Don't you need to downstairs?

He's a Goofball

This morning, as the boys were eating their breakfast, Quinn was singing a song. Chase says, "mom, Quinn's a goofball. I think we should kick him out of the house!" Hahaha Crazy kiddos!

Yikes! Where did that come from??

A conversation with Chase, just moments ago.

"Mommy, I love you."
"I love you too, baby."
"Mom, what happens if you die?"

Not sure how I was supposed to respond to that one.

Well, it's been a while, but the days are never without a laugh. There have been so many this month, and I just haven't had the time to write. Of course, now I can't remember them. It's a little upsetting because a few of them were Quinn's and I haven't had much from him on here.

But, here goes...a couple of conversations from today.

As I was changing Chase's diaper Reese tried to grab him. I told her "no" and moved her away. I tried to make light of it with Chase and laughed and said, "She tried to grab your wienie." He laughed and told her, "No Reese, you can't do that."

I decided it was time to test his memory as for the correct name for that part (something I am big on making sure my children know, for multiple reasons). I asked him what it was really called, to which he responded as if I were a moron, "Moooooom, it's just a wienie!" I said, "yes, but what is its real name?" His response, in a questioning tone, "Ummm, Wienie Denton???"

Nice try kiddo!

This evening, Quinn comes into the room I am sitting in to give me the standard evening tattle about something his brother is doing. This time it was, "Mom, Chase just kicked me." So, I called Chase in the room. "Chase, did you kick your brother?" Chase: "It was in the head!"

Ahhh, brotherly love.

Really I promise...Chase is a good kid!

A Little Bragging

Ok, so this isn't necessarily something my kids may have said, but it's time to bring Quinn in too. We got his 2nd quarter grade card yesterday. Once again he had all "E" and "+" on his report card. He was even too smart this time around to fall for my "All E's?!?! That's almost an F!"

He is doing great in school and I am so proud of him. Parent-teacher conferences are next month. This time they will be student lead. So, I am anxious to see how that goes.

Reese is Getting in on the Action

I knew Kirk was excited about FINALLY getting his "daddy's girl." But, even if the boys prefer me at times, they were never evil to him.

My baby is only 10 months old and she is already teasing me in her evil ways. Over the last few days she has started trying to headbutt me. And when she does she gets this little evil grin and laughs. Last night, Kirk was holding her and I was standing next to them. She started doing the headbutt thing to me, from his arms! (Never once going towards him, I might add.) Then, every time I would ask her for a kiss, she would slap my face. Of course, this has Kirk completely cracking up. Especially with the fact that if he asked for a kiss, she would turn and kiss him. Then, if I would sneak a kiss in on her, she would take her hands and wipe it off! Wow!

Crazy girl. Of course, she still prefers to fall asleep in my arms, rather than daddy's. Although, that may have something to do with the built-in pillows on my chest, that he doesn't have. :)

Drama King

Yesterday, as I was making dinner Chase was begging for a snack. I kept telling him no, until he burst into one of his whiny, fake crying fits. I told him that crying would not get him what he was wanting; crying would just make him get sent to his room until dinner was ready. With that, he covered his eyes with his hands and went running out of the room (fake crying still) and exclaimed, "I guess I'm not your boy anymore!"

Then, at dinner we were having trouble (as usual) with him staying in his seat. We kept telling him he needed to sit down on his bottom and eat like everyone else at the table. Again with the hands covering the eyes, he whined, "I guess I'm just a failure."

Well I quickly told him that he wasn't a failure that he just needed to sit down to eat. "That's how big boys do it." Then I asked him where he even heard the word failure; it's definitely not something we tell our children. He said that is what Mr. Krabs said...thanks a lot Spongebob. Hopefully we can get that word out of his vocabulary soon! Failure and can't are two words this mommy doesn't want her children using.
